- For in-database processing, Alteryx uses the Connect In-DB or Data Stream In In-Database tools to connect to the database, read the data, and build the query that is sent to the database when the workflow is run. Alteryx supports both ODBC and OLEDB database connections. This page describes how to add a new ODBC and OLEDB driver on your machine.
Tableau is not a ETL tool, it’s primarily a data visualization tool. So there is often a need to use a tool like Altyrex to help create data workflows and dataset that can be consumed by Tableau:

In Tableau, there is notably better performance of dashboards; it is highly recommended to use Tableau data extract file called as “tde” file. Using Alteryx, users can generate a Tableau data extract file (“tde” file). This generated ‘tde” file can be directly used in Tableau for creating charts.
How to create tde file using Alteryx:
a)Open ‘Alteryx Designer’ and “New Workflow1” workflow canvass will get created automatically
b) Now, drag the “Input Data” tool from above tool palette onto “New Workflow1” workflow canvas.
c) Connect to the input data source which you want to convert into “tde” file for Tableau. In Alteryx, there are various options to connect to input data source like Excel, SQL, and Hadoop etc.
d)Now, drag the “Output Data” tool from above tool palette onto “New Workflow1” workflow canvass and make the connection between “Input Data” and “Output Data’ tools to complete the workflow
e)After making connection with the “Output Data” tool, provide the location and name to save the output tde file. While mentioning the name, in the “Save as type” option select Tableau Data Extract (.tde) .
2.Publish the data source on Tableau Server:
